January 10, 2022 — Chelsey DeMatteis’ story wasn’t something she was proud of. She had come to Christ later in life—but that wasn’t before she spent many of her young years in rebellion. Chelsey had been living a “me” centered life. And yet, through her journey of coming to know Jesus, she still found how difficult it can be for anyone to focus on Christ in a self-centered world. That’s how she came to writing Arabelle Publishing’s newest release, More of Him, Less of Me, a devotional that challenges readers to put Christ first in their lives.
But Chelsey hadn’t planned to write a book at all. In fact, she wasn’t even sure about telling her story. Yet, God laid a verse on her heart, which would influence her decisions about sharing.
“The Lord continued to bring me back to John 3:30,” Chelsey explained. “It says: ‘He must increase, and I must decrease.’”
Chelsey realized that a life worth living would be one where God comes first and everything else comes second. But she knew it would be a continual process of pursuing God, not just a onetime “quick fix” prayer. With that mindset, God continued to work in her heart. She realized that while her testimony wasn’t perfect, it was beautiful because it was the story God gave her. She then felt led to start a podcast—the Living With Less Podcast. She wanted to provide encouragement to women who had a similar story to her own: one that was riddled with mistakes, but nothing that Christ could not wash clean through the cross.
Yet, that wasn’t all that God was doing in Chelsey’s life. Through the influences of her family, old friends, her notes from her podcast, and what the Holy Spirit put on her heart—she had the materials to write a devotional. She wrote More of Him, Less of Me—a devotional that would help women identify what’s keeping them from living a Christ-centered life through the lens of God’s Word.
“That is my ultimate desire, is that women will be in His Word,” she said. “That's why it was so important to me that each devotion has Scripture in it. I want that to be what changes everything for them. Because that's ultimately what He did in my life through His Word.”
More of Him, Less of Me is a 52-week devotional designed to reshape the way women think in a me-centered world—and instead, pursue Christ. Each devotion is full of Scripture, has a takeaway, and links to one of her podcasts. Readers will experience a change in how they see the world and how God sees them.
